Advancing this conversation is HUAWEI Malaysia Ecosystem Conference 2019 (HMEC’19). “I am urging Malaysians to participate and take advantage of the opportunities given by HUAWEI, a leading global technology company, in which successful apps developed will be given selective cash funding and marketing support,” said Yang Berhormat Tuan Haji Eddin Syazlee Shith.

HMEC is one of the biggest platforms brought together in partnership with MDEC, the organisation that works closely with the app developer ecosystem in Malaysia. Partnering with Media Prima Group, the largest integrated media platform in Malaysia leveraging each other’s strength and expertise proves not only benefitting just the app developers but Malaysians as a whole. “Malaysia has 20.9 million smartphone users and a household internet penetration rate of 86%. Certainly, there is massive potential to leverage on this growing trend as we continue to expand our app development marketplace. In fact, MDEC believes that app development will be one of the main catalysts in driving the nation’s digital economy in the next few years. With this program, both HUAWEI and Media Prima are bringing a wealth of experience, knowledge, technical competencies, and funding support to the app development sector,” said Norhizam Abdul Kadir, Vice President, Growth Ecosystem Development Division, MDEC.

Present during the conference, Datuk Syed Hussian AlJunid, Chairman, Media Prima Berhad said, “As the country’s largest integrated media network, we understand our audiences’ lifestyles and evolving content consumption habits. Today they prefer being engaged across a multitude of communications touchpoints that include broadcast, digital, social and most importantly mobile apps. To that effect, we have capitalised on our strengths in audience insights and extensive multichannel reach to drive dynamic content and innovative marketing capabilities across all platforms. For example, we leverage on our popular TV programmes such as Ejen Ali, Jalan Jalan Cari Makan (JJCM), Ho Chak! to create fun games and useful lifestyle apps that have become the ‘go-to’ resource for our viewers and digital users. We look forward to sharing our experience and capabilities in this area with a new wave of local developers. We are also excited to work with reputable partners like HUAWEI and MDEC to elevate Malaysia’s app development ecosystem to the next level.”
