11 October 2019, Kuala Lumpur - Plus Solar
and UOB Malaysia formalized their partnership to increase green awareness in Malaysia, at
the 10th International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM)
through the “Green Partnership Signing Ceremony”, witnessed by YB Puan Yeo Bee Yin, Minister
of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC), in the Kuala
Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
With the objective of achieving the
nation’s renewable energy mix of 20% by 2025, Plus Solar and UOB Malaysia created this green
partnership to catalyse the transformation of business owners to renewable energy. The partnership
contains marketing efforts and customized financing solutions to enable a higher
adoption of green energy in the Malaysian market.
Business owners who are interested in
installing a solar photovoltaic (PV) system can enjoy the benefits of this green awareness programme
such as an increased level of engagement in the commercial and industrial sector, a reduced
level of carbon emissions, green financing and an enhanced brand image.
At this ceremony, YB Puan Yeo Bee Yin
highlighted four elements that will enable the renewable energy industry to evolve such as the
technology, people who are willing to take the risk and innovate, government regulations that allow
investments and most importantly, the money. “With the rise of solar in Malaysia, I am
[optimistic] about the competitiveness in solar power to replace conventional [methods]”, she
stated.
Witnessing this ceremony was Sustainable
Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia, Malaysia Green Technology Corporation
(MGTC) and the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) in support of driving the
nation’s sustainable development. This year’s IGEM 2019 was themed
“Innovating Sustainability”, is geared to engage businesses in conducting more activities related to green
technologies and initiatives, to reach the nation’s energy mix goal and to provide a more
sustainable nation. IGEM 2019 is looking to generate RM2.8 billion in investments, making it the
highest amount to do so in decades. In the efforts to reshape the way energy is
generated and consumed for the Malaysian public, Plus Solar and UOB Malaysia were pleased to
have YB Puan Yeo Bee Yin as the guest of honour for this signing ceremony. The official MOU
signing between the Plus Solar and UOB Malaysia will take place on the 22nd of October
2019.
