Kuala Lumpur, 5 March – After 10 years, Malaysia’s no. 1 animated twin brothers Upin and Ipin are back to the silver screen. This Les’ Copaque Production Sdn. Bhd. film is helmed bythree talented young directors, Adam Amiruddin (director of the ‘Upin & Ipin’ series), SyedNurfaiz Khalid Syed Ibrahim (director of ‘Puteri’ series), and Ahmad Razuri Roseli (director of ‘Pada Zaman Dahulu’ series). It stars Asyiela Putri Azhar, Ahmad Mawardi Abdul Rahman, Mohd Amir Asyraf, Fakhrul Razi, and Ernie Zakri. UPIN & IPIN : THE LONE GIBBON KRIS, which took 5 years to produce, will screen in cinemas nationwide starting 21st March 2019.
UPIN & IPIN : THE LONE GIBBON KRIS Gala Night, held in GSC Mid Valley was attended by esteemed guests –YB Dr. Mazlee the Minister of Education, producers, directors, voice actors, industry players, and the media.
Ernie Zakri’s exceptional vocals in “Buai Laju-Laju” and Fakhrul Razi’s performance of “Keris Sakti” entertained fans before the gala night was lauched by YB Gobind Singh. Both songs are the original soundtrack (OST) for UPIN & IPIN : THE LONE GIBBON KRIS. The original music score and soundtrack are recorded in a live orchestra in Boston and Prague.
The film, with the production cost of almost RM 20 million, fully utilizes the expertise of local talents. Therefore, it is anticipated to boost the quality of the local animation industry to a higher level comparable to international animation. The date of the premiere, March 21st, is in line with the school holidays, and it is hoped that this film will be the ultimate choice for the whole family. This is because the 3D animated series ‘Upin & Ipin’ itself is a favourite of children, parents, and even grandparents.
UPIN & IPIN : THE LONE GIBBON KRIS tells of Upin and Ipin’s adventure with their friends ina fantastical kingdom called “Inderaloka”. There, they meet various well-known characters from local folklore such as Mat Jenin, Bawang Merah, Bawang Putih, and Pak Belalang. Viewers will be able to recall the nostalgic stories they know in childhood as they watch the characters re-imagined and animated in 3D. The kris itself is the anchor of the story, inspired by a real-life mysterious bladeless Malay dagger.
